About Us
Who We Are
We are a Christian church founded in the Reformed Protestant tradition and affiliated with the Presbyterian Church USA. Founded in 1828, we are the first non-Indian church to be organized in Hamilton County. Our congregation continues to faithfully bear the “Torch of the Gospel” to actively minister to our community.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
As Presbyterians, we share our faith with all other Christians in Jesus Christ as our risen Savior and Lord. We believe the Holy Bible is God’s inspired Word given to guide us in our relationships with God and our fellow man. We believe in two sacraments: baptism and communion. Our Core beliefs are best stated in THE APOSTLES’ CREED
“I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic* church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.” (* universal church)

OUR PASTOR - Rev. Peter Choi
Reverend Peter Choi has been our Pastor since 2019. God has called the oldest active congregation in Hamilton County to serve & worship together with a Korean-American pastor in Soddy Daisy, TN. This is only possible by God & the Holy Spirit leading two cultures, histories, and backgrounds to come together. Regardless of where we come from, God has brought those who are called together to be the church and to be faithful, to grow & be a healthy congregation.

Rev. Peter Choi was born in Seoul, South Korea, grew up in Stow, OH, and Rockford, IL, studied Psychology at the University of Illinois (Champaign/Urbana), and then received the Master of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary (PCUSA) in the Bay Area. He has served various churches and ministry settings, including the inner city in Oakland. Before coming to Soddy Daisy, he served as a solo pastor at the 3rd-oldest Chinese Church in the U.S. in the New Orleans Area. Rev. Peter Choi is married to Angela and has two children, Kayla and Jaden.
Rev. Peter Choi shared with the congregation, "Kimchi Sermon," using Paul's words of the Aroma of Christ in 2 Corinthians 2:14-16, that we naturally and ought to give off the scent of Christ wherever we go. Also, we do not use the words "luck" or "Good Luck!" in our vocabulary, for God is sovereign in all things. Recently, we have been learning to omit the saying "I will do my best" because it leaves room for backing out, but instead choose to say, "I will do it," wholeheartedly and fully commit to all we say and do.
